If you have children who are out of a stroller and under age 13, their entertainment options are a little more limited. There is stuff for them but the vast majority of attractions appeal to adults.
If you are going to bring young children, we would recommend:
Beacon Hill Park, has a petting zoo, large playground, water park, beautiful gardens, majestic coastline and walking distance from downtown.
The Victoria Bug Zoo. Lots of interesting little critters for the young ones to enjoy. www.bugzoo.bc.ca
Royal BC Museum, this is a great museum with lots to do and look at and features many renowned touring displays for example Leonardo Da Vinci and Titanic.
IMAX Theater, right beside the museum, always an interesting show to watch.
All Fun Water Recreation, a 20 minute drive out of town or take public transit number 56/57 will get you there.
There are various recreation centers all over town that have swimming pools and have activities geared towards kids.
VictoriaBC also has many fairs come through with rides, games and amusements, children love these.
A cautionary note. Victoria's packed full of bars and clubs in the downtown area that provides a wide variety of options. However this is also a bit of a downfall. Because they are relatively packed together and there is a mandatory closing time of 2:00am, between the times of 1:30am and 2:30am its can be a zoo out there. All manor of drunkenness pours out onto the street at the same time. Rude behavior and fights are commonplace. We are not saying it is a dangerous place to be, but just be aware this goes on. We recommend being in groups of 2 or more, leave before last call and take advantage of ample taxi services that will take you door to door.
Children under the age of 19 are not allowed in pubs, bars, dance clubs or disco. There is currently no teen or underage dance clubs available for them in Victoria BC,
Music
Victoria has a large variety of activities to do at night. Musical performances great and small, classical to hard rock. Victoria has been host to larger acts like Nelly Furtado and Snoop Dog as well as smaller independent and folk performers. Victoria’s music scene varied and talented. The larger performances are generally held at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre, you can check out the events here www.saveonfoodsmemorialcentre.com and the McPherson Playhouse or Royal Theater www.rmts.bc.ca .
Here are a few other places where you can find smaller acts that we would recommend:
Conveniently located at the intersection of Yates St. and Blanshard St. Empire Theater and the Odeon Theater you will be sure to find all your Hollywood blockbusters here. Check any of the free or local papers for show times.Click here for a full list of movie theaters in Victoria BC
